Waste Water Treatment Sludge
Waste Water Treatment Sludge
- Sludge is the semi-solid residue produced during wastewater treatment after the removal of suspended solids, organic matter, and contaminants from sewage or industrial effluents.
- It is generated at different stages of treatment: primary sludge from sedimentation tanks, secondary sludge from biological treatment (activated sludge process), and sometimes tertiary sludge from advanced treatment processes.
- Treatment of sludge involves thickening, stabilization (using aerobic or anaerobic digestion), dewatering, and sometimes drying to reduce volume and make it safe for disposal or reuse.
- Treated sludge can be used as biofertilizer, soil conditioner, or in biogas production, contributing to resource recovery and sustainable waste management
